What is May & Might?
“May” and “Might” अंग्रेजी मोडल क्रियाएं (Model Verbs ) हैं , जिनका उपयोग संभवतः संभावना व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है. In fact अक्सर लोगों को May के जगह Might और Might के स्थान पर May का प्रयोग बेहिचक करते देखा जाता हैं however इनके बीच में थोड़ा से अंतर् जरूर है.
In short , May & Might का हिंदी अर्थ होता है – सकना , आज्ञा लेना अथवा पाना , संभव होना।
Understand the word “May” :
English Grammar के according May & Might के बीच का अंतर मुख्य रूप से काल का है . काल अर्थात Tense . “May” का उपयोग प्रमुख रूप से Present या Future की संभावना को व्यक्त करने के लिए , अथवा Permision लेने के लिए किया जाता है। उदाहरण के लिए:
- कल राहुल आ सकता है। – Rahul may come tommorow
- कल बारिश हो सकती है। – Tommorrow it may rain.
Uses of “May” in the following ways –
- To express possibility or probability. Example – That may be true.
- To give or request permission. Example – May I go to the bathroom?
- To express hope or wishes (आशा अथवा इच्छा ). Example – May you have a happy life.
- To make predication (उम्मीद के अनुसार भविष्यवाणी करना ). Example – Train may be late tommorow .
- To express condition. Example – If you study hard, you may pass your exam.
Some More Examples of “May” :
1- You may come now . अब आप आ सकते हो।
2 – may I go out ? क्या मे बहार जा सकता हु ?
3 – may I use your Laptop. क्या मे आपका लैपटॉप use कर सकता हु ?
4 – May I borrow your rubber. क्या मे आपका रबर ले सकता हु।
5 – May I come bit later? क्या मे थोड़ा late आ सकता हु।
In conclusion, “May ( हो सकता है ) एक english word है। इसका उपयोग विभिन्न प्रकार की Possibility (संभावनाओं ) को व्यक्त करने और अंग्रेजी भाषा में Request (अनुरोध करने ) या Wishes ( इच्छाओं ) को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है।
Understand the word “Might” :
Might का उपयोग भविष्य , वर्तमान , और भूत ( present , future & past ) में किसी कमजोर संभावना को व्यक्त and Request करने के लिए किया जाता है. जैसे –
- राहुल कल ट्रेन पकड़ सकता है. – Rahul might catch the train tomorrow.
- सचिन क्रिकेट खेल सकते हैं. – Sachin might play cricket.
उपर्युक्त दोनों वाक्यों में संभावना कम है , इसलिए Might का प्रयोग किया गया है।
Uses of “Might” in the following ways –
- To express possibility or probability. ( especially a weaker or uncertain one, in the past, present, or future.)
- For a Polite Request or Suggestion.
- To express a hypothetical situation or condition.
- To express permission, request, or authority in a less formal way.
- To express a Potential or future possibility.
Some more examples of “Might” :
1- Might I suggest you an idea? (polite request) -क्या मैं आपको एक विचार सुझा सकती हु ?
2 – It Might be heavy rain today (less possibility) . आज ज़्यादा बारिश हो सकती है।
3 – He might go. वह शायद जा सकती थी.
4 – I might come . मैं शायद आ सकूंगा.
5 – Seema might sleep. सीमा सो सकती है.
May की तरह Might ( हो सकता है ) भी एक English Word है जिसका उपयोग विभिन्न प्रकार की संभावनाओं ( वह सम्भावना बहुत ही कम हो) को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है.
Important Tips :
- किसी संभावना को दिखाने अथवा व्यक्त करने के के लिए May का प्रयोग होता है. However यदि वह सम्भावना बहुत ही कम हो तो उसके लिए Might शब्द का प्रयोग होता है।
- सुझाव देने के लिए Might का प्रयोग होता है . Like – शायद वह आ सकती है – She might come.
- Permission लेने के लिए May & Might दोनों Word का प्रयोग कर सकते हैं but Permission देने के लिए May शब्द का प्रयोग ही किया जाता है।
- Both may and might be used to ask for permission, but only may is used for giving permission.
- “May” express a high possibility of something happening, whereas “might” hint that it might not happen.
Some frequently asked Questions (FAQ ) ;
Q ) Can I use the “may” word in place of might?
Ans:- Yes, in some cases, “may” can be used in place of “might” and similarly “might” can be used in place of “may”. This is because both words are used to express possibility or probability, and the distinction between them is not always clear-cut.
Q ) Which is a better word in between may and might?
Ans:- There is no single better option between “may” and “might.” The choice between the two should be made based on the meaning you want to convey and the tone you want to establish in your sentence.
Q ) Can I use the “Might” word for giving permission?
Ans: The “May” word is commonly used for giving permission. “May” is more appropriate (उचित ) than “might”.
Q ) May का सही इस्तमाल कैसे और कंहाँ करे ?
Ans: May का प्रयोग Helping verb (सहायक क्रिया) या Models के रूप मे किया जाता है। इसका प्रयोग सामान्यत: सम्भावना व्यक्त करने के लिए होता है। जैसे की – उसको तुम्हारा पता मालूम हो सकता है। He May know your address.
इच्छा (To Express Wish /Feelings) को व्यक्त करने के लिए May का प्रयोग किया जाता है . जैसे की – May you succeed ! आप सफल हो !.
अनुमति (Permission ) देने या लेने मे भी May का ही प्रयोग होता है। जैसे की – क्या मैं बाहर जा सकती हूँ ? May I go out ?
Q ) Might का सही इस्तमाल कैसे और कंहाँ करे ?
Ans : Might का प्रयोग helping verb या models के रूप मे होता है। जब संभावना कम हो तब Might का प्रयोग ज्यादा उचित लगता है.
Might का use संभावना (possibility) व्यक्त करने के लिए होता है. जैसे कि He might have some information about that Jewellery . उसे उस आभूषण के बारे में कुछ जानकारी हो सकती है.
जंहा पर संभावना कम हो (Less possibility ) बताने के लिए Might का इस्तेमाल होता है। जैसे की – He Might be at school. वह विद्यालय मे हो सकता है.
